Communication Ministry Recovers Rs. 1.3 Billion of Embezzeled Money

The Federal Minister for Communications Murad Saeed has recovered a hefty sum of Rs. 1.32 billion, allegedly embezzled by past governments. This is the second-biggest recovery since 2018.

After being appointed as a minister, Murad Saeed ordered an independent audit of the ministry’s accounts for the previous ten years.

The audit report highlighted discrepancies worth billions of rupees in various projects carried out by previous governments. The report revealed that hundreds of millions of rupees were paid in excess to contractors.

According to the statistics released from the ministry, it retrieved Rs. 200 million from the Okara Bypass project. The payment was made in advance while the project never started. Moreover, the overpayment of Rs. 242 million to a contractor in the Panjgur project was also recovered.

Similarly, Rs. 69 million were recovered from Rajanpur and DG Khan Indus Highway project while Rs. 122 million reclaimed from Islamabad-Muzzafarabad Dual Carriageway.

Note that in July this year, the ministry recovered another Rs. 4,500 million from various projects of the ministry. The total recovery made by the Communication Ministry during last year amounts to Rs. 8 billion.
