FIA Arrests Woman on Cyber Crime Charges

The Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Cyber Crime Wing has arrested a woman from Karachi for running an illegal gateway exchange.

Cyber Crime Wing’s Sindh Chapter acted in collaboration with Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) officials and busted a functional gateway business.

A woman named Sidra Kaleem was arrested during the raid that was carried out at a house in Nazimabad No. 2. The FIA team confiscated seven gateways, a sixteen-port device, a TP-link router, three laptops, internet USB, and 175 SIM cards from the scene.

An FIR has been registered against her and accomplices under sections 13, 14, 16, and 17 of the PECA 2016 of the Pak Telecom (Re-organisation) Act 1996 read with sections 420 and 109 of the PPC.

The spokesperson said that they are conducting raids to arrest other people involved in the illegal business, including Amir Zaman, Ali Asfi, Sajood, among other suspects.

The PTA has launched a crackdown against such illegal telecommunication gateways that have been causing a massive loss to the national exchequer. This is, however, the first time a woman has been involved in such crimes.
