LG Launches 5G-Ready Dual-Screen V50s ThinQ

Last month, LG announced its revised take on the dual-screen snap-on case with the G8X ThinQ smartphone. The company has now launched the 5G version of the same device in its domestic market but has made it a part of the 5G V lineup.

The dual-screen smartphone will arrive soon in the European and North American markets and will make its debut as LG’s first dual-screen product in the Canadian and US market.

Design and Display

As far as the design is concerned, the company has followed the same minimalistic approach we saw in the LG G8. It comes with Gorilla Glass 5 Protection on the front and back. The dual-sensor rear camera is horizontally aligned in the center.

At the front, the smartphone features a 6.4-inch OLED always-on display with 1080p resolution, 403 ppi pixel density, 19.5:9 aspect ratio and an under-display optical fingerprint sensor.

The removable screen connects to the main display via a USB-C connector and has the same specifications as the primary display. It also features a small 2.1-inch monochrome display for viewing notifications.

Internal and Storage

The smartphone is powered by the Snapdragon 855 chipset topped with 6 GB RAM and 128 GB onboard storage that can be expanded via an SD card.

On the software front, it runs on Android 9.0 Pie topped with LG UX 9.0, a new in-house Android overlay.

Cameras

The dual-sensor rear camera features a mere 12 MP main sensor joined by a 13 MP ultra-wide sensor. The ultra-wide sensor comes with an impressive 136-degree viewing angle.

For selfies, the smartphone boasts a 32 MP Quad Bayer sensor.

Battery and Pricing

LG V50S ThinQ is fueled by a 4000 mAh battery with Quick Charge 4.0 that supports 21W charging.

The smartphone will be available for sale in South Korea by 11th October for $1,199.

  • LG has focused on promoting the second screen as a practical alternative to foldable phones by Samsung Electronics and Huawei, which are set to hit the market next month.

  • I had a chance to visit the IFA2019 Berlin with LG’s strong pitch. An exciting development in Pakistan is the regulator authorised the local assembly/licensing of smart devices in Pakistan. At the ITCN 2019 show in Karachi recently, Huawei exhibited 5G enabled handset. The process of regulatory approval to assemble smart devices in Pakistan is progressing speedily and will be announced shortly. The regulatory authority is focusing on the licensing of 5G shortly and has established a division for the licensing of Smart Devices in Pakistan which means of likely possibility consideration for assembly of LG V50S specs., in this article. Shortly the services will be launched, and I see a great uplift/opportunity for LG to know the benefits for local assembled in Karachi LG smart devices for export to the bilateral trade countries which includes China from the assembly line of Karachi and rest of the world.
