Before smartphones, taking a good picture, or even taking a picture was inconvenient. A photographer would have to buy a fancy camera, a desktop computer, a software editor and would have to invest some serious time to get the perfect shot.
With smartphones, everyone has the opportunity to become a photographer for as little as $150. The same smartphone comes with editing software built-in, hence, if you want to, you can ditch your PC as well.
To recognize and celebrate the talent of the mobile photo & art communities, Mobile Photography Awards was founded in 2011. Since then, the competition is held every year from October to December where smartphone photographers can submit their entries to win a $3000 grand prize.
The 9th Annual Mobile Photography Awards is now accepting entries in several categories.
The Mobile Photography Awards has a total of 20 categories and every image can be placed into a maximum of two categories.
The winner of every category receives an MPA prize pack while the winner of the MPA photo essay category gets an award of $500. The categories are:
Any image shot with a mobile phone or a tablet is eligible for the competition. The photographers can use any combination of mobile phone applications to edit their image but editing using desktop PCs or laptops is not allowed.
