Banks Around The World Are Removing Support for Samsung Galaxy S10 and Note 10

Since last week, Samsung’s flagship phones the Galaxy S10 and Note 10 are being criticized by users around the world due to their faulty ultrasonic fingerprint scanner.

For those who don’t know, these smartphones come with a fingerprint scanner vulnerability that allows users to unlock the smartphone even if their fingerprints are not added to the phone. This happens after applying a cheap silicon screen protector.

This has caused massive security concerns around the world considering that almost all security-critical applications including bank apps require the use of the phone’s fingerprint scanner.

In the wake of this situation, banks around the world are removing support for Samsung’s Galaxy S10 and Note 10 from their apps.

The first one to disable the fingerprint login option for S10 and Note 10 was the UK bank Nationwide Building Society, followed by NatWest that has completely removed all support for both the smartphones.

Following that, the Bank of China, Israel’s Hapoalim Bank, and South Korea’s KaKao Bank have also sent their users a notice that they are dropping support for Galaxy S10 and Note10.

Bank of China has also removed the Tab S6 from its list of supported devices as well. Tab S6 uses the same scanner but no vulnerabilities have been reported yet.

In a recent statement, Samsung has promised that it will roll out a software fix as soon as possible. We are still waiting for that.
