Oppo is Working on its Own Processor: Report

Over the years, Oppo has become one of the most recognized OEMs around the world. It not only has a vast product portfolio but has also introduced a number of innovative designs and technologies to the smartphone world.

Earlier this year, the Company announced that it will soon start working on its smartwatch and smart audio devices. We don’t know how that is going but according to recent reports, the company is working on an in-house SoC. The processor will be called the Oppo M1.

Initially, the news was reported by LetsGoDigital but was just confirmed as Oppo filed a trademark application on November 20 at the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). The description of the trademark says, “it is for or related to a mobile processor”. According to other sources, Oppo has also hired engineers from Speadtrum and MediaTek to work on the M1 chip.

Considering the amount of effort and investment Oppo has put in its research and development department, this was bound to happen. Thus, it does not come as a big surprise. Currently, only top OEMs like Apple, Samsung, Huawei, and Xiaomi have in-house processors.

As far as the specifications of the chipset are concerned, details are scarce at the moment. However, analysts are speculating that Oppo is gearing up to launch, or at least announce the details of the Oppo M1 at the Mobile World Congress 2020 scheduled for March.
