Rawalpindi Police to Launch Crime App and Helper Button For The Public

Rawalpindi police is launching an application called ‘Crime App’ to facilitate and encourage the public to register their complaints with the police.

Regional Police Officer (RPO) Rawalpindi, Dr. Sohail Habib Tajik, made this announcement on Tuesday.

Addressing a press conference at his office, the RPO said that the move was aimed at restoring the public’s faith in the police.

He said that the step was taken to ensure that people come to the police to register their complaints and that these complaints are timely and effectively addressed.

Dr. Sohail Tajik said that he wanted to introduce community policing in the district.

We want to make police a true public service force and we need public support in this regard.

Helper Button

RPO Dr. Sohail Habib said they are also installing ‘helper’ buttons in police stations to ensure timely redressal of people’s problems.

If a person fails to get a response in time, the complainant can press the button, which will send an emergency call to senior police officers of the district.

We are introducing the alert buttons in police stations to get feedback from the citizens. If people do not get a response from the police station, an SOS message will be generated as soon as the complainant presses the button.

The emergency call and SOS message will be forwarded to the senior command, including the RPO and district and circle police officers. This way, the staff at the police station will think twice before ignoring any complaints.

Regretting their previous performance, the RPO admitted that people refrain from visiting police stations for registering complaints due to the behavior of the police staff. He hoped that the Crime App and the helper button will help them approach police without being afraid of mistreatment.
