Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Fawad Chaudhry, has said that the PTI government will introduce a uniform syllabus till matriculation countrywide from the academic year 2021.
National Curriculum Council (NCC), established by Prime Minister Imran Khan in 2018, has been overseeing the development of the uniform national curriculum.
According to Fawad Chaudhry:
The PTI government has devised the new syllabus under one-nation, one curriculum project. Its implementation up to matriculation will begin across the country from 2021.
The Science and Tech Minister added:
We have devised the unified curriculum for the children of the entire country, which will encompass everyone and children enrolled with government-run or private schools and even madrassahs will be taught only one curriculum.
The students studying in madrassahs have long been neglected and little attention was paid to them in the previous 70 years. Successive governments had allocated billions towards education, but insufficient funds were earmarked for the madrassahs’ students, said Fawad.
Towards the end of 2019, Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training, Shafqat Mehmood, had claimed that the government would introduce the uniform curriculum this March, which is the start of the new academic year in most schools.
However, the government’s plans were impeded as provinces sought the inclusion of mother languages in the national curriculum. As a result, the government was forced to redraft an already drafted curriculum.
