LG Announces Folder 2 Flip Phone With Emergency Button

While LG is creating hype for its upcoming design-focused Velvet smartphones, they’ve also made a surprising new announcement. The Korean phone maker has unveiled an old school flip phone with a dual display, 4G support, and an SOS key for emergencies.

The LG Folder 2 has a standard feature phone keypad and a 2.8″ QVGA screen on the inside. There is a secondary 0.9″ monochrome display on the outside in a strip that shows notifications, calls, texts, music, time, and more. The keypad includes a dedicated button for an AI voice assistant and a call recording function.

The 2MP primary camera is located at the bottom half on the outside next to the SOS button. Pressing this button three times in 1.5 seconds calls the emergency number and also sends the owner’s location to the number.

Internal specifications include the Snapdragon 210 SoC with 1GB RAM and 8GB storage. There is no word on expandable storage but it is likely available on the handset. The 1,470 mAh battery should be more than enough to keep the phone going for a few days.

The LG Folder 2 has WiFi, Bluetooth, 4G, and a convenient feature called data security lock which limits the phone’s data usage to avoid unintentional charges.

The phone will be available in White and Platinum Grey colors and will cost $160 when it goes on sale on April 17 in South Korea. There is currently no word on international availability yet.
