Taking another step towards the Riyasat-e-Madina model, the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) is going to open laborer facilitation centers in every district of the province to ensure the provision of basic grants.
KP Information Minister Shaukat Yousufzai announced this on Sunday, adding that laborers across the province can register themselves with nearby social security centers for free. He asked people to help register those who cannot do so themselves because of their age or any other issues.
He has also announced a mobile helpline number (091-9211546) where daily wage workers can register their complaints in case factory owners refuse to cooperate.
Shaukat said that the government has tasked director labor to collect the data of all workers employed at industrial units, commercial plazas, and hotels in KP.
He maintained that the facilitation centers will ensure the provision of death grants, dowry funds besides other allowances to registered laborers. They will also receive disability and death pension, and education scholarships for their children.
Yousafzai added that required legal amendments to the labor laws will be introduced soon to implement the new social security system.
Moreover, the government will organize special training and counseling sessions in labor colonies about their legal rights and how they can get them with the help of the government, he added.
