Huawei P40 Lite 5G Announced With 64MP Quad Cameras

5G is slowly rolling out to cheaper devices this year with brands introducing several affordable handsets. The new Huawei P40 Lite 5G is a rebranded Nova 7 SE and is one of the devices that offer 5G for cheap.

There are a few key differences between the standard P40 Lite and the P40 Lite 5G and here are the details.

Design and Display

The two devices have identical looking displays but the P40 Lite 5G has a slightly bigger 6.5″ LCD with FHD+ resolution and 20:9 aspect ratio. There is a punch-hole cutout in the corner for the selfie camera and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor on the power button.

The main difference in appearance is at the back where there is a vertically aligned quad-camera setup instead of a squad shaped module seen on the 4G variant.

Internals and Storage

Under the hood, P40 Lite 5G houses the Kirin 820 5G SoC which is a slight upgrade over the Kirin 810 found on the P40 Lite LTE, with up to 128GB storage and 6GB RAM. There is no word on UFS storage but it is likely to be present since the 4G variant features it as well.

The device boots EMUI 10.1 on top of Android 10 without Google Play services and apps.

Cameras

The camera setup at the back includes a 64MP main sensor (up from 48MP) alongside an 8MP ultrawide unit, a 2MP macro lens, and a 2MP depth sensor for portrait shots. Unlike the base P40 Lite, this camera can also record 4K videos at 30 FPS.

The front-camera inside the punch-hole cutout is a 16MP wide-angle lens capable of 1080p video recording.

Battery and Pricing

The 4,000 mAh battery can charge from 0 to 70% in only 30 minutes thanks to the 40W fast charging on-board. The phone can also act as a power-bank since it has reverse charging capabilities.

The Huawei P40 Lite 5G will officially go on sale on May 29 for €400. It will be available in Crush Green, Space Silver, and Midnight Black color options.
