Sindh Government Will Now Issue Smart Cards for Vehicles

In a recent development, Director General (DG) Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control, Mr. Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui inaugurated the new Excise and Taxation office Build at I. I. Chundrigar Road, Karachi, where the provincial minister, Mr. Muskesh Chawla was also briefed about the operations within the new building.

Minister Chawla was briefed about the facility center that is soon to be developed in the new premises to facilitate the taxpayers. Upon the occasion, however, Mr. Chawla made the announcement that going forward, the vehicle owners shall receive a smart card instead of a registration book for their vehicles.

During the announcement, Mr. Chawla shared details regarding the new mechanisms that are soon to be put in place regarding vehicle registration, information management, security, and number plates.

Mr. Chawla highlighted that the smart card shall contain the entire tax record of the car and the owner which will be kept in a computerized database of the registration authority. The security features and number plates shall also be prepared accordingly.

He announced that the smart card issuance shall begin in 2 to 3 weeks time. He also highlighted that despite the coronavirus induced challenges, Sindh Excise and Taxation Department achieved its target of obtaining over 100% tax during the financial year 2020.

Vehicle registration is an exhaustive exercise that usually ends up with the owners getting a booklet that is the source of all information. With the recent step, this information shall be encapsulated in a handy smart card, the information of which shall be synced with the main database of the registration authority. This is likely to make the registration process easier going forward.
