The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has accepted the demands of university teachers serving under the tenure track system (TTS).
On Monday, TTS teachers staged a protest outside HEC headquarters in Islamabad, claiming that there are more than 6,000 TTS teachers across Pakistan who are facing a wide range of issues that have not been addressed by HEC or universities.

These issues include an increase in salaries and pensions, leaves, grade period, and journal policies, and pending endorsement cases. TTS teachers demanded immediate redressal of these issues along with the issuance of notifications.
As a result of the protest, HEC Chairman Dr. Tariq Banuri, Executive Director Dr. Shaista Sohail, and Member Operations Fateh Marri held a meeting with protesting TTS teachers and accepted most of their demands.
According to the official statement issued by the HEC following the meeting, Chairman HEC has pledged to accept the genuine demands of the protesting TTS teachers.
In this regard, HEC will issue three notifications during the current week.

One notification will notify an increase in the tenure of TTS teachers from 6 to 9 years along with revised criteria while the other two notifications will pertain to clarification about administrative posts held by TTS teachers in the past and the policy guidelines for holding such positions in the future.
Besides, HEC will issue two more notifications within a month, one of them will notify the increase in salaries of TTS teachers while the other will pertain to the revised pension scheme of retired TTS teachers.
