The Pretext

It all started last month when the French President backed the satirical French magazine Charlie Hebdo’s decision to republish caricatures of the Prophet (PBUH), calling it freedom of speech.  This allowed the publishing of blasphemous cartoons all over France under government support, a move that provoked the Muslim community across the globe.

As a result, a French teacher named Samuel Paty was killed by a Muslim student for showing the caricatures in his class on ‘freedom of speech.’

The President, known for exploiting Islamophobia for his political gains, then cashed on the incident and declared it a national tragedy. He gave the deceased teacher an official memorial and declared him a ‘victim of stupidity and hate.’

Condemnation

His unceasing anti-Islam rhetoric attracted condemnation from Muslim leaders, including Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and Prime Minister, Imran Khan. Erdogan declared President Macron a ‘mental patient’ and suggested him to see a doctor.

Addressing a ceremony on Saturday, Erdogan said that “Islamophobia will overwhelm Europe and it will end itself in this cycle.”

Meanwhile, PM Khan accused Macron of deliberately provoking Muslims instead of putting a healing touch.

Khan said Macron chose to spread Islamophobia attacking Islam rather than the terrorists who carry out violence, be it Muslims, White supremacists, or Nazi ideologists.
