Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 875 is a Souped Up 865 With a Better GPU: Leak

Qualcomm’s next major tech summit is set to take place in December this year where the chipmaker is expected to announce its first 5nm flagship SoC, the Snapdragon 875. A few leaks have talked about the SoC’s enhanced processing power and now a tipster has claimed to have seen a prototype, revealing new details.

Digital Chat Station says that the new 5nm SoC will have one of its CPU cores clocked at 2.84 GHz, three at 2.42 GHz, and the last four at 1.8 GHz. The report on Weibo does not reveal what the main CPU core is, but according to the rumor mill, it will be the Cortex X1 that will bring a 23% performance improvement over the Cortex-A78.

The other three cores are expected to be based on Cortex A78 whereas the last four may be the Cortex A55.

The configuration is quite similar to the Snapdragon 865, but the new Adreno 660 GPU will set the two chips apart. This will improve cache and memory bandwidth which will ultimately help with low power consumption and improve battery life on smartphones.

Similar to the Kirin 9000 and the A14 Bionic, the Snapdragon 875 will be one of the fastest chips on the market and it is expected to be ahead of the others as well. As mentioned before, the new SoC is expected to break cover early next month.
