NCOC Reveals COVID-19 Positivity Ratio in Pakistani Cities After Alarming Increase in Infections

The National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) has warned that the country’s overall COVID-19 infection ratio has surged past 4.5 percent, with the virus spreading rapidly in major cities.

The NCOC meeting in Islamabad was briefed that at least four major cities of the country have a prevalence ratio above or around 15 percent.

Hyderabad has the highest prevalence rate in Pakistan with 16.59% positivity ratio, followed by Gilgit 15.38%, Multan 15.97%, and Muzaffarabad 14.12%.

Among other cities, Mirpur’s positivity rate is at 11.11%, Peshawar 9.69%, Quetta 8.03%, Islamabad 7.48 %, and Karachi 7.12%. Lahore and Rawalpindi were among the least hit cities with a prevalence rate of 5.37 % and 4.63%.

The NCOC was informed that so far, 4,136 places countrywide are under a micro lockdown.

Trace, test, and quarantine – TTQ strategy – is being used for disease control and prevention of COVID spread. The forum was told that recent health guidelines will remain enforced in 16 major cities till 31 Jan 2021.

Crisis Units in Hospitals

The forum was also informed that 2,811 oxygenated beds were included to ramp up hospital capacity, and over 13,000 oxygen cylinders were issued to various provinces and federating units.

NCOC appreciated the provinces’ efforts for taking prompt and necessary measures in line with health guidelines for public safety and well-being.
