FBR Takes Notice of Rs. 2 Billion Wedding in Gujranwala

The recent wedding between the families of two of Pakistan’s leading business groups in Lahore has caught everyone’s attention, including that of the Federal Board of Revenue.

The four-day extravagant wedding of the scions of Jalal & Sons and Master Tiles was graced by several celebrity attendees. It featured concerts by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Atif Aslam in addition to performances by foreign acts.

The wedding was planned by KSC Concept, catered by the Rose Blanca Club, Lahore, and covered by the famous photographer Irfan Ahsan.

Almost everything from the décor to the catering to the gold leaf-wrapped sweets was extravagantly expensive. Rs. 1 million were paid to Maulana Tariq Jameel in terms of a gift for blessing the couple with special dua following Nikah ceremony. According to careful estimates, the two families spent around Rs. 2 billion on the four-day festivities.

The FBR has taken notice of the matter and has asked Master Tiles to explain the expenditures. The revenue board has issued notices to Gujranwala-based industrialists under Section 176 of the Income Tax Ordinance 2001 to ascertain the withholding of taxes. It has sought a reply by 16 November, and legal action will be taken accordingly.

  • Dear author and admin, please review your articles before publishing. Pictures of bride and groom are not from the wedding under discussion, rather they are bride and groom from another wedding. this negligence can put someone unrelated to all this mess in a big trouble.

  • Display of vulgar wealth in the form of extravagant spending on marriage has negative impact on society. It promotes corruption, bribery and unfair means among others to match and compete and sense of extreme deprivation among the poor. The parents can give billions to the couple as gift but there is no need for public show off. There are 55 million people in this country who are living below poverty line. Pakistani Rich families have poor record of philanthropy as their social duty. Like one dish and time management, government should regulate number of guests, budget for decorations and week long events. The import of flowers and other items for marriage must be banned. FBR should also serve notices to the caterers, event managers and photographer who must have charged in millions to make 2 billions.

    • Should be a free economy. The more regulated the economy is, the less opportunities there are for businesses to flourish. This is one of the few countries in the world where people frown upon earning and spending. While it’s true that people are below poverty line, it has a lot to do with illiteracy.

  • Extremely shameful act by billionaires..
Show off money..FBR should take punitive action, against culprits

  • Mr Bilal they are the bride n groom from the same wedding open ur eyes
    I totally agree with Tahsin
