Nokia is Leading Europe’s 6G Project

Despite 5G being barely available across the globe, the European Union appears to be keen to work on the next generation of mobile network technology, 6G. The EU has funded a new wireless project to work on 6G called Hexa X and Nokia has been appointed to lead the companies and universities working on the project.

Hexa X project aims to work on developing fundamental 6G technologies as well as creating use case scenarios for it. It will also define a new architecture to help integrate key 6G enablers.

Other companies involved in the project include Ericsson, Atos, Intel, Orange, Siemens, TIM, and Telefonica. Ericsson will act as the technical manager of the project and the University of Oulu and the University of Pisa are also a part of it.

Hexa X will officially kick-off on January 1, 2021, and is planned to last 30 months. Nokia expects 6G to become commercial in 2030, which follows the typical 10-year cycle of next-generation mobile network technology.

This technology is expected to use super high-frequency terahertz airwaves which will allow for advanced connectivity and enable real-time holographic imaging.

Other than the European Union, countries including South Korea and China have also started working on 6G technology.

  • We expect the tech will directly be linked with human brain in future without time dilation
