Oppo Shows Off a Unique Tri-Folding Concept Phone

Smartphone makers are endlessly experimenting with the foldable form factor ever since Samsung showed off the Galaxy Fold for the first time in 2019.

Oppo has now teamed up with a Japanese studio to show off a unique tri-folding smartphone concept similar to TCL’s idea, but in the vertical form factor instead.

Oppo’s new tri-folding phone has a unique triple hinge mechanism which would be a first in the industry if the device becomes official. The phone can fold down to a point where it can easily fit into a pocket thanks to its compact build. Once it is fully unfolded, it has q quite tall 7-inch display.

When the device is unfolded once, it only shows 40mm of its display that is used to show basic information such as history, notifications, time and date, and other custom settings. Once it is unfolded twice, it shows 80mm of the screen that can be used to take photos.

As mentioned before, once the device is completely unfolded, it opens up to a large 7-inch screen. This can easily be used to open two apps at the same time to maximize multitasking.

Oppo is rumored to launch this tri-folding phone sometime during 2021. However, keep in mind that this is only a concept and the phone might never make it to the market.
