Facebook Relaunches Instagram Lite App With a File Size of 2MB

Earlier this year, Facebook shut down the Instagram Lite app, much to the disappointment of many. It is now returning to app stores once again to join the ranks of Facebook’s other Lite apps including Facebook Lite, Messenger Lite, etc.

Instagram Lite was announced at an event in India yesterday with a file size of less than 2MB. It ditches some of the features of the main app including Reels, Shopping, and IGTV for a faster and cleaner experience. Hence, the Lite version is ideal for those who don’t use any of these features.

Since Instagram Lite uses a minimal amount of resources, it is a great option for regions with unreliable internet or low bandwidth internet packages. It is also ideal for entry-level phones with meager specifications as it does not take much space and requires less processing power.

Instagram Lite is limited to India at the moment, but should gradually roll out to other regions as well. It was listed on the Google Play Store earlier this month and already has more than 5 million downloads.

It is not surprising that Facebook launched the app in India first as the market has the highest amount of Facebook users, which exceeded 310 million in November this year.
