Rashid Khan, Chief Executive Officer and president of Ufone and PTCL, passed away during early hours today morning.
He is credited to have played a major role in shaping the telecom sector of the country, as we know it today, and remained at the core of it by heading two major telcos during past decade.
Mr. Khan was unwell for few weeks and was being treated at a private hospital in Islamabad.
Rashid Khan was the CEO of Ufone since August 2017. It was announced last month that Mr. Khan will be stepping down in December 2020.
Previously, he remained the CEO and president of Mobilink (now Jazz) for six years from July 2008 till August 2014.
Mr. Khan worked in Silicon Valley for almost 15 years for various international companies. He was also awarded patents for his inventions.

Statement on the sad demise of Rashid Khan, President and CEO, PTCL & Ufone
With immense sorrow we announce that Rashid Khan, President and CEO, PTCL & Ufone, has passed away this morning after prolonged illness.
Rashid Khan, took charge of Ufone in August 2017 and was later appointed as the CEO of PTCL Group in March 2019.
Rashid Khan is acknowledged for taking various successful initiatives at the Group level, particularly for modernizing the PTCL and Ufone networks and enhancing customer experience.
Rashid Khan remained in the senior management positions in the telecom industry in various companies locally and internationally.
Having extraordinary leadership qualities, he is one of the pioneers in the Pakistan telecom industry and is held in great respect for his contributions.
He will be remembered as an exceptionally successful business leader who was also a great human being, having humility, compassion and respect for his colleagues.
PTCL & Ufone Family conveys its sympathies and heartfelt condolences to the family.

Mr. Rashid Khan contributed significantly for the development of Telecom, specially the Mobile Networks for South Asia. I was shocked to receive the news of his passing away so suddenly. I had the pleasure to work with him as an industry expert. A man of amiable disposition, humility and outstanding leadership. Dear Rashid Bhai, you will always be fondly remembered in high esteem, now rest is peace.
