Although Karachi’s public transport remains dilapidated, it is the most preferred means of transport for the citizens of the metropolis.
According to a recently published survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International Association, 40% of Karachi residents use public transport in their everyday lives while 60% of Karachi citizens own a vehicle which they use for routine travel.

In terms of gender, public transport is the most preferred mode for women in Karachi as 46% of women use it on a regular basis.
While responding to the Gallup survey, Sindh Transport Minister, Awais Qadir Shah, admitted that the public transport sector in Karachi has been ignored for a long time, adding that the provincial government is now taking steps to improve the transport sector

In this regard, the construction of the Red Line BRT project is set to start in March next year. Once operational, the project will cater to more than 625,000 passengers every day, noted the Minister.
As a person who has used the public buses in Karachi, I can tell you that the number one factor for people choosing this transport is affordability, second being coverage and lastly frequency of buses. If govt. can provide this facility, people would gladly shift.
