Punjab to Get a Price Control Authority to End Hoarding & Profiteering

The Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Information, Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan, announced that the Punjab Price Control Authority will be established soon.

While addressing a press conference during her visit to the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) Headquarter on Tuesday, Dr. Awan said that the government of Punjab had promulgated the Prevention of Hoarding Ordinance, 2020 to prevent traders from hoarding essential items which had led to both fake shortages and raised prices.

She added that district price committees would be established under the ordinance to control hoarding and illegal profiteering.

PFA teams are actively operating on the directives of Punjab’s Chief Minister, Sardar Usman Buzdar, against the adulteration mafia and are austerely supervising the food supply chains that range from small vendors to luxury hotels, Dr. Awan said.

She further stated that even though the adulteration mafia is the biggest obstacle to a progressive Punjab, the provincial government has taken historical initiatives within the last two years to ensure the provision of hygienic food to its citizens that included setting up milk testing laboratories at the entry and exit points of the city. Special bike squads have also been directed to check food points at motorways.

Following the success of the pilot project in Lahore, the provincial government is also planning to legalize pasteurization for the provision of pure milk.
