Khalti Lake in Gilgit-Baltistan’s Ghizar district has completely frozen after witnessing a temperature of -17 °C over the last 24 hours.
It is a vital source of clean water for the locals and is inhabited by an abundance of trout, which is a local favorite.
Located approximately 2,217m above sea level, the crystallization of the serene lake has dented people’s hopes for having trout for dinner again. Nonetheless, it has made for a lively playground for children to skate on.
