PM Imran Extends Service Tenure of FBR Chairman

The federal cabinet, under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Imran Khan, has extended the service tenure of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) chairman, Javed Ghani, for another three months.

Ghani is the fourth head of the revenue body since PTI took office in July 2018. Serving as the Secretary Revenue Division, he was given the additional charge of FBR chairman on July 4, replacing the previous chairperson, Nausheen Javed Amjad.

The appointment was initially made for three months only. However, Ghani’s performance has earned him two extensions already.

Among other decisions, the federal cabinet approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the FBI, US, and the NAB. The matter of gas load-shedding was also discussed during today’s meeting.

Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) on Petroleum, Babar Nadeem apprised the meeting about the current situation.

Babar has been under the pump for his alleged involvement in the Petroleum crisis that occurred during May-June.

In a televised interview, Federal Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed revealed that SAPM Nadeem Babar had clarified his position on petroleum products, but some of the cabinet members had expressed anger in the last cabinet gathering.
