KP Launches Its First-Ever Food Security Program

The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has introduced its first food security program that will introduce the province to a green revolution.

The program will improve agricultural production by transforming 584,000 acres of barren land into arable terrain and will employ thousands of unemployed women.

It will also include the construction of a new dam and an irrigation system for Rs. 142.27 billion, and approximately Rs. 50 million will be spent on olive cultivation.

The provincial government has also allocated Rs. 10 billion on an interest-free loan program and another Rs. 5 billion on an easy payment loan program for farmers.

Additionally, it will provide a subsidy of Rs. 2 billion to increase the production of wheat, rice, sugarcane, and edible oils.

Similarly, equal amounts of Rs. 2 billion each will be provided to increase the production of vegetables, for a calf rescue program for better meat production, and for modern slaughterhouses.

Furthermore, the fisheries and livestock sectors will be allocated Rs. 3 billion under the program.

According to the provincial Minister for Labour, Shaukat Yousafzai, the main objective of the program is to facilitate the province to become self-reliant in the agricultural sector.
