Xiaomi’s recently released Mi 11 flagship has been a resounding success, in China at least, where the company sold over 350,000 units in just 5 minutes. The value of these sales exceeded $230 million.
The news does not come as a surprise as Xiaomi’s phones usually sell quite well. Not to mention that the Redmi Note 8 and the 8 Pro were among the top 5 best selling phones of the year in 2020.
The next sale for the Mi 11 is set to start on January 5 in China. It will be selling in two different retail versions, one without a charger called the “Eco/Green Edition” and the other with a 55W Gan Charger and cable called the “Set Edition”.
In other news, Xiaomi has decided to make its own CEO the brand ambassador for the Mi 11, which is unusual as companies usually go for celebrities in the sports or entertainment industries. Executive Lei Jun posted an image of himself on Weibo posing with the flagship phone.
The marketing team’s decision to make him the brand ambassador comes as a result of fan requests, which does not come as a surprise as Lei Jun is one of the most popular CEOs in the Chinese tech industry.
There is also a special edition of the Xiaomi Mi 11 with a unique finish on the back and the CEO’s signature engraved on it, but that is not the version he is holding in the image.
Here is how it looks.
