Pakistan is making efforts to convince YouTube, Facebook, and other social media giants to establish their offices in the country.
It was revealed by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) officials during a hearing of the petition in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) against the sacrilegious film named ‘Lady of Heaven.’

A PTA official said that the authority cannot block any content on social media platforms but can only write letters to YouTube, Facebook, and companies.
He added that only PTA deals with blasphemous content on social media, and the Ministry of Information does not have anything to do with such content.

To this, Justice Aamer Farooq noted that social media companies such as Youtube, Facebook, and Twitter should open their offices in Pakistan as it will become easier for the PTA to monitor blasphemous content on these platforms.
While directing PTA to furnish a copy of Social Media Rules 2020 before the IHC, Justice Aamer adjourned the hearing of the case until next week.
