Prime Minister Imran Khan has announced the opening of 3G and 4G facility in South Waziristan.

He announced this while addressing a ceremony concerning the distribution of cheques amongst the tribal people under the Kamyab Jawan Program in Wana today.

He said that the opening of 3G and 4G would facilitate the youth. He added that the internet services were closed due to terrorism in these areas, adding that forces had feared that the terrorists could have used these technologies for communication.

He said that now the forces have secured internet services, and we have a mechanism to monitor all activities. After consultations with Army Chief, General Qamar Javed Bajwa, and ISI Chief, Lt. General Faiz Hameed, it has been decided to launch internet services to facilitate the residents, particularly students, as most educational institutions had started online classes, the PM said.

He also said that uplifting the poor segments of the society, and backward areas, including the tribal districts, is the priority of the government.

He laid special emphasis on the education sector and the provision of livelihoods to the people of tribal districts. He said apart from giving scholarships to the youth, schools, colleges, universities, and technical institutes will be established in the tribal districts.

Imran Khan said the loans under the Kamyab Jawan Program are just the beginning, and its scope will be further expanded in the days to come. He said more funds will be poured into the program from next year so that more loans could be given to the people.

The Prime Minister said assistance will also be provided to the tribal people under the Ehsaas program. He said women of the area would also receive cattle under this program.

Khan said that road infrastructure will also be built so that the farmers could easily take their produce to the markets. Referring to the potential of the area in the olive oil production, he said that a massive plantation will be started in the tribal areas from next month.

He said this project will enhance the income level of the people, and they will look for jobs in other cities. The Prime Minister said that each family in the tribal districts will be provided with a health insurance card, under which they will be able to get medical treatment worth seven hundred thousand rupees per year.

He noted that the tribal people have given immense sacrifices for the country, and only time would prove that the decision to merge tribal districts with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was the best one. He pointed out that certain elements tried to create hurdles in the way of mergers, but credit goes to the tribal people for foiling their attempts.

In response to PM’s announcement, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) issued a statement saying that it has issued directions to the Cellular Mobile Operators (CMOs) to immediately start mobile broadband services in the district.

“These services will be made operational from tonight and residents of the area will be able to use them for educational, health, business, and other purposes,” PTA said, adding “It will especially help students having online classes due to COVID-19. This development will also help in bringing the area at par with other parts of the country in terms of technological advancements”.
