The Government of Punjab has issued an order for officials to follow a dress code during office hours and while appearing before the court of law.
The directive came a day after Justice Mansoor Ahmad Malik of the Supreme Court (SC) at the Lahore Registry reprimanded the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Lahore, Mudassar Riaz Malik, for presenting himself in inappropriate attire.

According to a notification issued by the Welfare Department on Tuesday, Punjab’s officers are mandated to maintain a formal demeanor and adhere to an appropriate dress code that reflects decency in conformity with their professional roles during the office timings and while appearing before a court.

The directive that has been issued to all the divisional and deputy commissioners, administrative secretaries, and the senior member of the Board of Revenue read:
All the male officers working under your administrative control may be instructed to observe a proper dress code i.e. lounge suit/smart casual with closed collar shirt and tie, or shalwar kameez with waistcoat, along with appropriate footwear. In the case of female officers, the dress code should be in line with office decorum and norms while being reflective of the formal nature of official duties.
