The President of Pakistan, Dr. Arif Alvi, said on Monday that the Higher Education Commission (HEC) is currently working on a new policy for disabled students pursuing post-graduate studies.
The new HEC policy aims to provide free education and better banking facilities to students with disabilities and special needs who are undertaking programs in higher education.

Addressing a meeting held in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) at the Governor House in Peshawar, President Arif Alvi said that Pakistan’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development aligns with global innovation trends and will give the disabled community full access to services including healthcare and rehabilitation to enable their social inclusion and participation.
He added that the emerging trends in technology are attracting more people and that the government is focused on technical, vocational, and skill-based education to facilitate “two million persons with different kinds of disabilities”.

Currently, there are 330,000 disabled people registered on the NADRA database, and Prime Minister Imran Khan has already announced a monthly stipend of Rs. 2,000 for each disabled person.
Additionally, the concerned government divisions are collecting the data of unregistered persons under the Ehsaas flagship to give them loans in easy installments.
