Sony IMX800 Will Be The Biggest Smartphone Camera

As per a recent leak by the Chinese tipster Teme, Sony is working on the world’s first 1-inch mobile camera sensor dubbed IMX800. The camera will debut with the Huawei P50 series that is set to arrive later this year.

Along with the news, he also revealed the camera details of the vanilla Huawei P50, Huawei P50 Pro, and Huawei P50 Pro+.

The base model will come with a triple-sensor camera setup featuring an ultrawide angle camera and a telephoto camera along with the main sensor. The Pro model will also have a triple-sensor rear camera system but the telephoto lens will be swapped with a periscope camera. The maxed-out Pro+ model, on the other hand, will have five cameras including the main lens, the ultrawide, telephoto, periscope, and ToF sensor.

In a separate tweet, the same tipster revealed that Huawei will stick to a 50MP camera with an RYYB filter for the new sensor. Moreover, we might see a return of features such as omnidirectional PDAF for autofocus.

Although there is no official news regarding the upcoming Huawei P50 series, according to sources familiar with the matter, the phones are expected to enter mass production soon. The series will be launched later than its predecessors, P40 series was announced in late March and went on sale in early April. It makes sense since if the Sony sensor is going to be announced in April, then the Huawei P50 series can’t launch in March.
