Supreme Court (SC) has barred University Engineering and Technology (UET) Peshawar from upgrading the employees of the institute.
During a recent hearing of a petition, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), Justice Gulzar Ahmed, remarked that UET Peshawar’s situation has become similar to that of Steel Mills and PIA.

Justice Gulzar added that UET does not have funds for disbursing salaries and pensions because it has recruited more than 50 persons against every seat.
In response, UET’s counsel argued that the incumbent provincial government has not made any political recruitments in the university, adding that as a result of past political appointments, the university has insufficient funds for salaries and pensions.

While adjourning the hearing indefinitely, Justice Gulzar directed UET’s counsel to furnish a detailed record of the university’s past vacancies and hiring.
