In the last three years, 427,219 students cleared matric exams. 279,621 students got admissions in different public colleges while 147,598 gave up education. What this means is that 34.5% of students failed to continue education after clearing matric during the last three years.

Educationists have attributed poverty as the biggest reason behind the falling public college enrollment in Karachi.

Besides, other causes behind decreasing enrollment are child marriages, rigid family boundaries, poor academic results, pursuing professional and vocational courses, location of colleges, transportation, and additional academic expenses.
