Prisoners in Punjab Earned a Profit of Rs. 87.6 Million in 5 Years

The prisoners in the jails of Punjab have generated a profit of Rs. 87.6 million on sale of the handcrafted items that they created.

According to the details, 21,000 inmates prepared a variety of products over five years that were sold, and the entire profit thus earned has been added to the national exchequer through a challan.

The amount was earned after the products prepared by the inmates were sold out by the authorities in the open market.

The different types of products crafted by the inmates included rugs, kit boxes, side lockers, furniture, and blankets.

The provincial authorities have adopted various plans for the rehabilitation of inmates to enable them to indulge in productive activities.

The Government of Sindh has also established a board to devise reintegration policies for prisoners following their releases and to address the basic issues of the prisons and the inmates. The recommendation made by the board will be presented to the prison management board for approval.
