Now that Donald Trump has been kicked from Facebook as well as Twitter, the former president has revealed plans to launch his own social network.
The ex-president has said that he is going to launch a social network service in “two to three months”, but has not clarified what sort of platform it will be. He has only made ambitious claims that it will “redefine the game” and will attract millions of users.
If Trump goes forward with his plans, it would give conservatives a platform to talk freely with little to no moderation. It should be ideal for those who believe that mainstream social media is biased against right-wing ideologies.
There is no word on whether Donald Trump has the infrastructure or the right tech partners for the project. An earlier report from Deadline noted that major cloud service providers such as Microsoft and Amazon are reluctant to provide support to the former president following accusations of influencing violence on the Capitol.
Shopify and Stripe have also stopped doing business with Trump after the US Capitol riot. This means that he will likely have to rely on foreign or smaller tech partners for support. There is no guarantee that the alternative tech partners will be able to meet the ex-president’s ambitious claims.
In any case, it will be interesting to see what he comes up with and how the tech-world reacts to it.
