Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, a major automotive group from China and the owner of Polestar and Volvo, is working on launching a new electric vehicle (EV) brand called ‘Zeekr’ as a premier EV brand that will compete against Tesla, Audi, Porsche, and other high-end EV makers in the market.
Geely’s officials have revealed that the first product under the marquee ‘Zeekr’ will go on sale by the end of this year. The report had come from Reuters and disclosed that the Zeekr EV will sit on the Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) platform made by Geely.

The platform is supported by a lithium-ion battery manufactured by a Chinese battery maker CATL. After the revelation of the SEA platform last year, a representative of Geely revealed that this battery will have a life span of two million kilometers. Additionally, Geely’s future intentions are for all Volvos to be on the same platform.
Initially, Zeekr vehicles will only be sold in China where Tesla is one of the mainstay EV brands and will continue to develop a bigger dealership chain from there based on the demand of the vehicles across the globe. The Chinese EV market also consists of brands like NIO, BYD, the Great Wall Motor Company, and a few others.

Nonetheless, Geely is one of the most prolific automakers in China which already has a premier EV maker called ‘Polestar’ in its chain of automotive marquees. Polestar is a renowned and high-in-demand brand in the European and North American markets that will give Geely a learning opportunity to make Zeekr a global success as well.
