Ruet-i-Hilal Committee to Announce Ramadan Moon Sighting: Fawad Chaudhry

The Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Fawad Chaudhry, has affirmed that the Ruet-i-Hilal Committee will announce the sighting of the moon under the laws of Pakistan but maintained that the “foundation of our future depends on science, technology, and education, and we must employ technological innovations for effective decision making”.

The minister had claimed on Saturday that the Ramadan moon will be sighted “clearly” in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, and Peshawar on the evening of 13 April and again on Sunday. He also reiterated a similar statement that the first day of fasting will be observed on 14 April in Pakistan.

However, despite his insistence on using science and technology for effective decision-making, the moon sighting announcement will be made by the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.

The Chairperson of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, has summoned the committee for a session on 13 April for the first Ramadan moon sighting under the new chairperson.

He also declared that “the entire nation will observe fasting on the same days and also celebrate Eid on one day”.
