The Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court (LHC), Muhammad Qasim Khan, has reportedly hinted at passing a new law for civil servants regarding their use of social media.
He has directed all the civil servants to submit their cellphone numbers and online account details to the concerned departments and has suggested that all the departments devise a ‘code of conduct’ for the usage of social media by civil servants.

CJ Khan oversaw a hearing for a petition against strikes by public office holders who had reportedly made bold claims against the judiciary on social media. These protests had been held following an arrest warrant for Sahiwal’s Assistant Commissioner that had been issued by a court in the city.
The case has been resolved, and although the LHC has accepted compensation as an apology, it has, in turn, recommended that all the departments gather social media credentials of their personnel to maintaining discipline.
