COVID-19 vaccines procured from China are effective against the UK variant of the Coronavirus, Punjab’s Health Minister, Dr. Yasmin Rashid, has revealed.
While addressing a press conference in Lahore, the Minister said that the UK variant is responsible for most COVID-19 cases during the ongoing third wave of the viral infection.

She added that COVID-19 vaccines procured from China are effective against the original strain of the Coronavirus and also offer protection against the variant that emerged from the UK.
The Minister noted that South African and Brazilian variants of COVID-19 have also been found in Punjab, adding that 1 case of each strain has been reported in the province so far.

All kinds of gatherings, indoor and outdoor, and processions across Punjab have been banned by the provincial government, the Minister said.
She added that Coronavirus cases and positivity rate will decrease in the province only if the public cooperates with the authorities by adhering to COVID-19 SOPs.
