While addressing reporters in a media briefing on the cabinet meeting, Fawad Chaudhry explained that the new electoral reforms consisted of 4 parts, namely: EVMs, E-voting, Biometric, and Legislation.

EVMs have been fully developed, he said, further mentioning that the government had already circulated its legislative agenda to concerned divisions to ensure transparency. He also remarked that work on Biometric and E-voting had begun. In a statement, he explained,

One ordinance will enable the Election Commission of Pakistan to use electronic voting machines in elections, while the other empowers the ECP to take steps to give the overseas Pakistanis right to franchise

While most of the work depends heavily on parliamentary approval and swift action on behalf of the government in power, Fawad Chaudhry expects the premier’s directions to involve the civil society, media groups, and bar councils for a unanimous consensus.
