Shafqat Mahmood Announces Decision on Promotion Without Exams

On Wednesday, the virtual meeting of the Inter-Provincial Education Ministers Committee (IPEMC) chaired by Federal Education Minister, Shafqat Mahmood, rejected the proposal to promote students without examination.

According to details, Inter Boards Committee of Chairmen (IBCC) had suggested IPEMC to promote students of 9th and 11th classes without examinations and to hold examinations of only optional subjects of 10th and 12th classes due to closure amid the third wave of Coronavirus.

The IPEMC meeting also tentatively decided to conduct examinations of classes 9th to 12th in two phases. In the first phase, examinations of classes 10th and 12th will be taken in July. Examinations of classes 9th and 11th will be taken in the second phase in August or September.

The complete schedule of examinations will be finalized in the IPEMC meeting in the next few days after further consultation with concerned stakeholders.

Meanwhile, IBCC’s proposal also started a rumor mill on social media that the committee had decided to promote students of 9th and 11th without examinations and to hold examinations of only optional subjects of classes 10th and 12th.

However, Education Minister, Shafqat Mahmood, dispelled the rumors and asserted that board examinations will take place according to the schedule of respective boards.
