Here’s How You Can Find the Qibla Direction on Zero Shadow Day

At midday on Thursday, 27 May, the sun will pass directly over the holiest place of Islam — the Ka’abah in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.

The Ka’abah is the central part of the Grand Mosque and pinpoints the direction in which Muslims around the world face to offer their five daily prayers.

Muslims will be able to determine the accurate direction of the Qibla at 02:18 PM (Pakistan Standard Time ) in less than two days, as astronomers have said that the sun will be directly over the Holy Ka’abah at the predetermined moment.

The Zero Shadow phenomenon occurs when the Qibla has no shadow due to its location between the equator and the Tropic of Cancer.

To do it yourself, hold or fix a vertical stick on the ground at the given time, as shown in the figure below.

You will see that the shadow of the stick will indicate the direction of the Qibla.
