KP Has a Shocking Number of Certified Cardiologists

A three-member bench presided over by the Chief Justice (CJ) of Pakistan Gulzar Ahmed was told at a hearing at the Supreme Court that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has only one certified cardiac doctor despite heavy investments in the province’s fledgling healthcare sector.

Angry at the shocking revelation by the CEO of the KP Healthcare Commission, the CJ remarked how concerning it was “to have only one certified cardiac doctor in the entire KP province”.

After inquiring about how more than 4,500 heart procedures had been conducted in the province over the last 12 months without registered specialists to oversee the procedures, the CJ immediately remarked that the CEO should resign to vacate his post for a more suitable professional.

Later on, during the proceedings, the three-member bench directed the concerned government divisions to prioritize the restructuring of the KP’s healthcare diorama, and warned that “any negligence in this regard will be the responsibility of the concerned healthcare commission”.
