Fourth Wave of Coronavirus is At its Peak in Pakistan

Pakistan reported 3,752 new cases of Coronavirus during the last 24 hours, the highest daily tally since 20 May when 3070 cases were confirmed.

With an increase of nearly 1,000 cases in a day, the national COVID-19 positivity rate has jumped up to 7.51% from 6.32%. On 20 May, the positivity rate stood at 5.95%.

According to National Command and Control Center (NCOC), 3,752 COVID-19 cases were recorded across Pakistan on Sunday, up from the 2,819 cases recorded a day earlier.

In the past few weeks, Coronavirus cases have increased steadily, with the Delta variant, which first originated from India, accounting for most of the infections. Besides the Delta variant, the presence of Alpha and Beta variants that emerged from the UK and Brazil respectively has also been confirmed by the NCOC.

SAPM on Health, Dr. Faisal Sultan, has requested the public to follow SOPs, such as face mask-wearing and avoiding crowded spaces, and get themselves vaccinated against COVID-19 as early as possible from their nearest Mass Vaccination Centers (MVCs).

Federal Planning Minister, Asad Umar, who also heads the NCOC, has also urged the public to get vaccinated at the earliest and warned that unvaccinated people are at seven times higher risk of contracting the Coronavirus.
