The company recently held its regular earnings call with investors where it revealed plans for the rest of the year. Among other announcements, the major takeaway was that the company’s next flagship 5G SoC will be based on the TSMC 4nm process and will release by the end of 2021.

The first phones based on this MediaTek chip will release in Q1 2022.

This information was shared by the VP of the International Data Corporation (IDC), well known for its market research reports. He predicts that phones with this new MediaTek chip will cost about $615 or above, at least at first.

MediaTek’s current flagship chip is the Dimensity 1200, which goes on par with the Snapdragon 865, but lags behind the 5nm Snapdragon 888. The upcoming MediaTek chip is expected to change the game as it will be based on the next-generation chip technology, TSMC’s 4nm process.

However, rival companies like Samsung and Qualcomm will also have their own next-generation flagship chips ready by the end of the year, meaning that it is not going to be easy for MediaTek.
