Lahore Gets Its First Anti-Women Harassment and Violence Cell

Lahore Police have established its first “Anti-Women Harassment and Violence Cell” on Tuesday at Defence Area (B) police station.

IGP Inam Ghani directed all the field officers to establish anti-harassment cells across the province and appoint victim support officers to hear and address women victims’ issues, following the Minar-e-Pakistan harassment incident.

The cell was inaugurated by the Capital City Police Officer (CCPO), Ghulam Mahmood Dogar, in the presence of DIG Operations, Sohail Chaudhary, CTO Muntazir Mehdi, SSP Operations, Waqar Shoaib Qureshi, SP Headquarters, Imran Ahmad Malik, SP Dolphin Squad, Rashid Hayat, SP Cantt, Sayyed, and media persons.

Besides, Dogar also visited various sections of the newly inaugurated Cell of Police Station Defence Area (B) and reviewed the facilities provided at the four desks namely Monitoring Desk, Victim Feedback and Assistance Desk, Victim Support Desk, and Investigation and Prosecution Desk.

The Monitoring Desk will track the history of the suspects involved in sexual violence and harassment cases, Victim Feedback and Assistance desk will guide and assist the victims when requested through helplines or in-person, Victim Support Desk will assign a victim support officer in writing for every victim as soon as an FIR is registered while the Investigation and Prosecution Desk will monitor the quality and pace of investigations and assist the investigation officers of the cases.
