Shahbaz Gill Opens Up on Gifts Received by Imran Khan on Foreign Visits

Special Assistant to PM (SAPM) on Political Affairs, Shahbaz Gill, has informed that gifts received by Prime Minister Imran Khan during foreign visits have been deposited to Toshakhana.

Commenting on the unwarranted debate on social media regarding the information of the gifts received by PM Imran Khan, Gill said that the presents received during foreign visits are deposited in the treasury, and if any gift is intended to be kept, money is deposited in the treasury in return according to the law.

The SAPM noted that the PTI government had raised the cost to 50 percent for gifts intended to be kept for personal use.

“Unlike the past practices when only 15 percent of the actual cost was deposited to retain a gift, the PTI government has raised this amount to 50 percent.

The Prime Minister’s focal person said that whenever a country presents a gift to the head of state, it’s neither broadcast nor compared with other countries, for it is deemed inappropriate.

He took a jibe at previous governments saying that, unlike other leaders, the gifts are not disappearing during their tenure.

Note that two former prime ministers, Yusuf Raza Gilani and Nawaz Sharif, and ex-president Asif Ali Zardari are facing a case in the Pakistani courts regarding gifts received by them during official tours.
