Huawei’s US Ban to Continue Under Biden’s Presidency

The US ban on Huawei was expected to lighten under President Biden’s rule. He had promised to review the Huawei blacklist issue under his presidency, but the situation does not appear to be getting any better.

President Joe Biden’s nominee to a post that oversees export policies to China claims that the Huawei ban will likely stretch further than expected. Additionally, the Under Secretary of Commerce for Industry and Security, Alan Estevez has said that they are keeping a close eye on Honor to see if Huawei only parted ways with its sub-brand in hopes to reduce the blacklist repercussions.

He said he had seen Chinese companies use such maneuvers before.

For those unaware, Huawei is currently under tremendous pressure due to the unavailability of components and software caused by the US ban. For that reason, Huawei decided to sell off Honor and is no longer involved with any business operations or management activities of Honor. It no longer holds any share in the company either.

Some reports also claim that the Biden administration is considering extending the ban to Honor after lawmakers raised valid concerns against the company.

As for Huawei, it is going to stay in the blacklist as long as the US believes it is a security threat to the country regardless of who stays in power. Needless to say, the future is not looking well for Huawei.
