22 Bottled Water Brands Declared Unsafe for Human Use

The Pakistan Council for Research in Water Resources identified 22 brands of bottled water as unsafe for human consumption.

According to its report that was released on Sunday, 180 brands of bottled water were procured from across Pakistan between April and June 2021, of which 22 brands were found to be unsuitable, and 90 are sold only in Karachi.

Unfit water contains TDS, arsenic, excessive levels of potassium, and the germs of infectious diseases, including cholera, diarrhea, dysentery, hepatitis, and typhoid.

The offending brands are Pure, Blue Plus, Sunlay, Aqua King, Spring Fresh Life, UF Pure Edge, Douro, Dropice, Puricana Mineral, Drops, Best Natural, Al Barakah Water, and Koyo.

It was found that the sodium levels of these brands range from 60-165 mg/L, which is higher than the PSQCA bottled water quality standard of 50 mg/L of sodium.
